    WHAT IS A MASSAGE GUN?

    A massage gun is a manual device that mimics the kneading effect of a professional deep-tissue massage in a few good "shots". It was invented in 2008 by American chiropractor Jason Werseland to treat a back injury he sustained in a traffic accident. Pressure is exerted on the muscle tissue by means of throbbing and vibrating movements, resulting in numerous benefits: improved rehabilitation after an injury, less chance of stiff muscles after a vigorous workout, less stress and tension in general, improved mobility and circulation.     WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A MASSAGE GUN?

    The massage gun may come from the professional circuit, but it serves just as well for amateur athletes, people who suffer from stress or sleep disorders, or patients who have to recover from injuries and experience a lot of pain.

    The benefits of the massage gun are therefore the same as those of a traditional massage. Scientific research has shown the beneficial effects of a totally relaxed body on the sleep rhythm: sixty minutes of deep massage would be the equivalent of seven hours of sleep. Of course it is not the intention to replace sleep with a massage, but imagine what an advantage this “extra” sleep can offer!
    Why do athletes love it so much? The deep impact of the throbbing and vibrating movements makes the stiff muscle tissue more flexible, kneading tensions and annoying knots. This ensures a solid warm-up before a workout, a faster recovery after a workout, and reduces the formation of lactic acid and therefore also the chance of stiff muscles. In addition, it promotes blood circulation and thus muscle building.
    After all, more active muscles are muscles that develop faster. Research has shown that people who often sit at a desk unconsciously suffer from lazy muscles: if you sit all day, the nerves that activate your glutes are closed, causing them to break. Not only does this put more pressure on (and therefore burden) other muscles and joints, it also ensures that your squats and lunges suddenly have less effect - simply because your buttocks are not really in focus.
    Furthermore, regular use also has an effect on your silhouette because it acts on your fascia. That's a subcutaneous connective tissue that wraps around your muscles, joints and organs, "wrapping" your entire body - like an internal wetsuit. That way it is responsible for the shape of your body, so your silhouette. Healthy fascia are elastic and bring your muscles together nice and tight. You should really think of them as your body's natural corrective underwear. In poor condition, however, they will hold up toxins, lose their elasticity, grow thicker and shorter. Result: your silhouette looks bloated and less slim and you suffer from stiffness.


    HOW DO YOU USE A MASSAGE GUN?

    As long as you keep your wits about you, you really can't go wrong with a massage gun - it ultimately comes down to a massage and they are basically risk-free.
